7 Benefits To Leaving New York City For The Suburbs

By January 18, 2019 5:39 pm Benefits to moving to the suburbs

When you first started talking about moving from the city to the suburbs you were most likely met with your own version of the FRIENDS scene where Monica and Chandler break the news to the gang, while each of them take their turns listing out all Monica and Chandler would be leaving behind. Chinese food at 2am, access to every shop you can imagine, being able to walk places were all high on the list.

What that scene, and the well-meaning people in your life, didn’t make mention of though was all you stand to gain — think a car that will be your partner on short grocery runs and longer roadtrips, more space than you know what to do with, or the ability to buy in bulk.

No one season of your life is better than the next, but if you’re ready to move to the suburbs here’s what you’ll gain when you move to your home/town.

Money will seem to go further in the suburbs…

Living in the city means you constantly feel like you’re living paycheck to paycheck, even if you technically aren’t. In the suburbs, you’ll be getting a better bang for your buck when it comes to real estate, home necessities, or even your new go-to lunch spots.

Less noise pollution…

Cities and loud sounds are synonymous, a move to the suburbs promises waking up to the sound of birds instead of construction.

Space to breathe…

New York City can get claustrophobic at times, a move to the suburbs will help you gain some room to breathe. Imagine a morning walking through your neighborhood, listening to Headspace, and being able to breathe in fresh air.

A full-size kitchen….

Small kitchens are more than enough when you’re just getting your start in the city and are spending more time eating out than you ever spend in your own kitchen, but at some point things shift. If you’re pushed to cook more, it’s harder to get motivated to do so in a small kitchen, but one with an island and a dishwasher? Sign us up.

Buying in bulk…

A move to the suburbs means gaining a pantry that is the size of your city apartment, at least. You will acquire a thrill for buying in bulk and it is well justified.

Local shops, soon-to-be favorites…

Supporting local businesses becomes that much easier once you make your way to a town in Greater New York. Coffeeshops are run by people who want to connect with local residents and who love the craft, you’ll strike up conversation with boutique owners and the teengare behind the juice shop counter. There’s a homier feel to your everyday errands that becomes second to none.

Living both close and far enough to the city…

The perfect distance between you and the city may be the kind that is still doable by train, that’s the best part of living in Greater New York, you’ll have the best of both worlds.
